Contextual Awareness

Mortal Kombat

  •  Violence – Ethical issues found in Mortal Kombat is that, will the violence make player violent with all of the gore, because the game is so violent it has been banned in Australia, Germany and South Korea, I think it shouldn’t be banned because all the gore and violence is not real and shouldn’t be taken away from players experience.

  • Sexuality – Issues found in the game with sexuality being most girls were over sexualised by their outfits, I Think most girls wouldn’t wanna be portrayed as objects and only appeal to men’s ideology of women and to make girls want to play it is to make then wear normal clothes.

  • Ethnic diversity – The game has ethical diversity issues with Asian stereotypes because of their marshal arts skills, I think that the issues shouldn’t be taken so seriously because its a game, and the character shouldn’t be associated with real life issues.

Tomb Raider – Lara Croft

  •  Violence – A blog I have read shows that, more people care about the pain inflicted on Lara as a character than if it was a male character like the main protagonist (Nate) in the Uncharted series how he gets battered and bruised but when its a girl, its the worst thing in the world.

  • Sexuality – Lara croft is a very controversial game when it comes down to her sexuality, Feminists say she doesn’t portray as a real female’s body and Lara was only designed for the male audience fantasies. I think this shouldn’t be a problem because she isn’t a real person and women shouldn’t be offended when a video game character has a bigger bust or a slimmer waist than them.

  • Ethnic diversity – The game has had ethical diversity issues with Lara croft being to sexy and a sex object for the male fantasy because its not a real betrayal of Women in some cases, This shouldn’t be a issue because she is supposed to be a athletic character and be fit for all her adventures.

Are all characters represented equally within the games?

Seeing as everyone has a say about video game characters, NO not all characters are equally represented but in Lara croft she is the only controlled character in the game and all the enemies are fine and she doesn’t need any help for other characters but in Mortal Kombat there is a whole range of character including creatures and different races of people, so there is a wide range of characters to choose from.
